Our Lajita Kaftan is hand block-printed on soft 100% cotton material by artisans in Rajasthan, India. The wooden blocks are first hand-carved and the design is then hand-stamped using a different block for each color in the pattern. The seamless printing shows the fine skill of the block-printers, and it is a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation. Each region of India has a different style of block-printing, and each family has their own collection of wooden blocks.

Our new embroidered kaftans  are hand embroidered by women artisans in Uttar Pradesh, India. The embroidery motifs are first block-printed onto the garment and then the women do the embroidery in their homes, which allows them to do the work on their own schedule between other household work. Sevya is Fair Trade Certified through the Fair Trade Federation, and is committed to paying workers a living wage. Buying Fair Trade helps support better livelihoods for garment workers around the world, 80% of which are women.
